Steve Strey is the 2015 WI State Champion Auctioneer, were you there – did you see the competition and were you part of the fun of bidding on unique items. The WI State Champion Auctioneer is held at the WI State Fair each year and this year on August 11, 2015 there were 18 competitors.
Steve Strey was awarded the honor of the 2015 WI State Champion Auctioneer by a panel of 5 judges, which included various past state champions and a Hall of Fame inductee. Steve finished the event by auctioning of not one but two of the octagon bricks for the 4-H Foundation benefit.
First Runner-Up was Jim Gavin from Reedsburg, WI and is associated with Gavin Brothers Auctioneers LLC and second runner-up was Dallas Kravoletz, Bonduel, WI. The other 3 finalists were Jeremy Schafer, Lake City, MN; Ray Henry of I.R.A.Y. Auction, Foley, MN; and Randy Stockwell of RJ Stockwell, Inc. Land & Auction Co., Dorchester, WI.
The competition was held on the Main Stage in the Coliseum of the WI State Fair Park. The competition entails an initial round where all the competitors sold 2 items and then determined by the judges scores the field was narrowed to 6 finalists. The six finalists then had to answer two industry related questions and sell an additional 3 items for the final round. This competition was also a fund raiser for the 4-H Foundation with the competitors selling various items donated for the 4-H Foundation.
Steve Strey, the 2015 WI State Champion wanted to be self-employed, so he went to auction school in 2002 at the Continental Auctioneer School in Mankato, MN in 2002. Steve grew up working on his grandparents dairy farms and purchased his own farm in 1998. Steve and his family currently farm near Foster, WI and has an 85 beef cow farm with 600 acres of crops. Steve has been married for 15 years to wife, Leslie and has one daughter Heidi who is 13.
Steve graduated from CVTC Farm Business and Production Management Course. He currently works with ProCountry Auctioneer Service selling farm machinery, livestock, real estate, construction equipment, antiques and collectibles. Steve is a partner with Scott Werlein; Scott was the 2009 WI State Auctioneer Champion. He is the past president of the Chippewa Valley Forage Council, past president of Grace Lutheran Church, current president of Eau Claire County Farm Bureau, member of the Augusta FFA Alumni.
