WISCONSIN AUCTIONEERS ASSOCIATION NEWS RELEASE:

The Wisconsin Auctioneers Association held their 2016 Annual Convention with the theme of “Stay Sharp – what you’ve been doing may not cut it anymore.” With that goal in mind the association offered continuing education credits for all and a One-on-One workshop to hone the auctioneer skills.

With featured educators on the “Branding and Marketing” by Jenelle Taylor; the WI Dept. of Revenue and WI Dept. of ATF on hand for Mini Rules and Regulations; and Tim Miller presenting the “Ethics” class. There were other sessions on becoming a better auctioneer from Jenelle Taylor, Tammy Tisland and Matt Corso from the National Auctioneers Association.

With the first evening came the first contest of the WAA Convention was the preliminaries for the WI State Champion Auctioneer with an open auction that the public was invited to . There were 22 contestants there were 12 chosen to continue onto the semifinals. The semifinals and the finals will be held at the WI State Fair on Tuesday, August 9 in the Coliseum. Those twelve semifinalists are Joe Mellem, Mark Oberholtzer, Christopher Sund, Randy Stockwell, Jeremy Schafer, Robert Helmuth, Bryce Hansen, Raymond Henry, Jim Gavin, David Allen, Kendall Thiel and Damien Massart.

waa4Monday of the convention had a great “Novice Auctioneer” contest with the selling of the WAA Auxiliary pies and various other items to the convention luncheon attendees. Robert Helmuth of Junction City was announced as the 2016 Novice Bid-Calling Champion. The “Novice” is also invited to the WI State Fair competition for WI State Champion Auctioneer.

The WAA annual meeting was held and with that came the election of WAA Board members. The 2016 WAA Board includes, President Bryce Hanson of Prairie Farm, President-Elect Carol Wagenson, New Lisbon (new to the Executive Board) Vice-President Kendall Thiel of Chilton (new to the Executive Board), Treasurer Beaner Stockwell of Dorchester, Past President Kathy Packard of Antigo. Board Directors are Michelle Massart of Green Bay, Jeff Hines of Ellsworth, Sterling Strathe of Iola, David Allen of Cross Plains and new to the WAA Board Jim Gavin of Reedsburg and Scott Werlein of Mondovi.

waa1The WAA “Gala” evening banquet included the presentation of the Wisconsin Auctioneers Hall-of-Fame inductee and the honors were given to Carol Miller of Oconomowoc. Carol also received a presentation from the 2015 WAA Board of Directors for her “above and beyond” work for WAA Board and the membership. She was given “high acclamations” for all her help and support and knowledge she gives to all who she meets. The final tribute was a scholarship to continue her education in the auctioneer industry on the national level.

waa22015 President Kathy Packard handed the microphone to Bryce Hansen the 2016 President who then introduced the new 2016 WAA Board.

waa3The evening ”Gala” continued with entertainment and what else – of course – an auction. This was the “Champion Ringman’s Competition with the title of Champion Ringman being awarded to David Allen of Cross Plains (right). Second was Heidi Miller of Merton (center) and 3rd was Jeremy Schafer of Lake City, MN (left). The “fun” auction continued on after the “Gala” presentatons.

The final days luncheon had a keynote from Dave Ross, Secretary of WI Dept. of Safety & Professional Services. The awarding of the Advertising-Media Contest with the winners being:

President Bryce Hansen closed the WAA Annual convention with a thank you and safe travels to all.
